Dear Patrons and Friends,
Built in 440 A.D. just behind the Basilica of St. John Lateran, the Baptistery had been, for generations, the only baptistery in Rome. Almost as old as the fifth-century structure itself, there is a half-dome of mosaics from about 450 A.D. decorating a side chapel.
The mosaics were subjected to intensive deterioration so some of our Patrons have stepped forward to fund the restoration of this apse which is being carried out by the Vatican Museums mosaic restorers.
